Eredivisie Social Project

With the ‘Eredivisie Social Project’, Eredivisie clubs are encouraged to implement new, impactful social projects. Both a jury and the public jointly select the best three plans from all the entries, which are rewarded with project funding.

An expert, independent jury evaluates the entries from the Eredivisie clubs, after which the public votes for the nine selected projects. The opinion of the public and the jury both count for half in the final assessment. The jury consists of Humberto Tan (presenter), Aletha Leidelmeijer (ESPN presenter) and Daan Peters (Friends Lottery managing director). The Friends Lottery makes a total amount of €100,000 available, which is divided among the three clubs with the best project plan.

SC Heerenveen winner season 2020/'21

sc Heerenveen won €50,000 last season for the best ‘Eredivisie Social Project’. The club from the northern province of Friesland received the award for the ‘Wy tinke oan moarn’ (We think about tomorrow) project. With this project, the club wants to work on a vital environment for the (young) inhabitants of Friesland. The aim of this project is for children aged 10-12 to learn and read (more) and to get and keep moving, both literally and figuratively.

SC HEERENVEEN’S APPROACH TO HELP YOUNG PEOPLE LEARN TO READ AND EXERCISE MORE IN 40 SCHOOLS IS SPECIAL AND UNIQUE. THIS PROJECT IS HAVING A MAJOR IMPACT ON THE ENTIRE PROVINCE OF FRIESLAND.

FC Groningen and FC Twente number 2 and 3

FC Groningen received €30,000 for the ‘Frame Football on Tour’ project. With Frame Football on Tour, FC Groningen offers a solution for children with a disability to play football in a group by using a special walking frame. ‘A wonderful initiative that brings together both the athletic and the social aspects of football. Not only does it make football available to children with disabilities, it also promotes integration and mutual understanding with peers without disabilities.’

FC Twente’s ‘Fitting leisure activities and sports’ project received €20,000 to help children with non-mental disabilities such as ADHD, autism or behavioural problems. Under expert guidance, these children can take part in regular sports and leisure activities in the municipality of Hengelo in order to become fully integrated into society and to give them a sense of belonging.
