Feyenoord claim first win of the season 3-0 against Excelsior

After the humiliating defeats to Trencin (5-1 on aggregate) in the Europa League and to De Graafschap (2-0) in their first Eredivisie match of the season, Feyenoord finally found a victory in the home league on Sunday.

Giovanni van Bronckhorst's side beat Excelsior 3-0 with goals from Robin van Persie in the first half and of Jeremiah St. Juste and Jan-Arie van der Heijden in the second. Van Persie broke the deadlock in the 17th with a superb touch from Sam Larsson's assist.

It was just what the home side needed to relax – from that moment on the game was a one-sided affair, with Excelsior unable to create any chance at goal. St. Juste sealed Excelsior's fate in the 77th minute, cooly netting Yassin Ayoub's assist.

Van Persie could have scored a third a few minutes later, but the former Manchester United striker, all alone in front of an empty net, incredibly hit the crossbar from the six-yard box.

Excelsior could have halved the gap a few moments later when substitute Denis Mahmudov left-footed shot from 25 metres hit the post.

Shortly before the final whistle, van der Heijden made it 3-0 with a back-heel touch from inside the six-yard box from van Persie's assist.
