Feyenoord smash five past Excelsior Rotterdam

Feyenoord Rotterdam hosted Excelsior Rotterdam hoping to keep their three-point gap with Utrecht in fourth position of the Eredivisie on Sunday.

Giovanni van Bronckhorst's team opened the scoring after just four minutes. 24-year-old Jean-Paul Boetius curled the ball past Excelsior's goalkeeper Theo Zwarthoed for his fifth goal of the season.

Jens Toornstra scored with a header in the 27th minute to make it 2-0. And before the interval, 23-year-old Tonny Vilhena converted Steven Berghuis's pass to finish the first half in total control.

In the second half, things did not improve for Excelsior. Dutch international Steven Berghuis scored his 12th goal of the season, and it was 4-0 in the 55th minute. An own goal by Excelsior defender Jordy de Wijsin in the 76th minute completed a 5-0 rout for Feyenoord.

Giovanni van Bronckhorst's team remained fourth with 51 points, while Excelsior stayed 11th with 35 points.
