Geertruida named as U21 Player of the Month for the second time

Feyenoord defender Lutsharel Geertruida was named as U21 Player of the Month for the second time.

Lutsharel Geertruida has won the Eredivisie prize for U21 Player of the Month for a second time this season. The 20-year old Rotterdam-based player showcased his talents in the centre-back position in September and then thrived in January as a right-back.

With a passing accuracy of 84% in the opponent’s half, one goal and an assist, Geertruida was a menace going forward. But the Feyenoord player also stood his ground as a defender: 26 encounters won and seven successful tackles.

Boy Kemper (ADO Den Haag) and Gabriel Gudmundsson (FC Groningen) were Geertruida's closest contenders in the race for the fifth U21-prize of the season.

New structure: 40,000 fan votes included

Just like previous months, the scores for Player of the Month are drawn up for players objectively, based on over 60 statistics. Only players who have played at least two-thirds of the total number of game minutes are eligible for the title. What is new this time, however, is that fan votes which are submitted via the Man of the Match selection, will now also be included in the count. In January, a total of 40,360 votes were submitted for Man of the Match.

The Eredivisie Player of the Month award is an initiative of Eredivisie CV in collaboration with ESPN and KPN, main sponsor of the Eredivisie.
