'He is very welcome in Paris!' - Mbappe wants De Jong to seal PSG transfer

The Frenchman hopes the club can secure the Dutchman's signature next year, after being impressed with what he has seen from the teenage star

Paris Saint-Germain winger Kylian Mbappe would welcome the prospect of Ajax teenager Frenkie de Jong moving to Parc des Princes.

De Jong has already played 22 matches across all competitions this season, impressing with his exceptional passing range and knack for breaking up play in midfield.

Ajax are currently second in the Eredivisie, two points behind defending champions PSV, while also going strong in the Champions League.

The Dutch giants have qualified for the knockout phase with a game to spare and De Jong has featured prominently, with several major European clubs reportedly interested in securing his services in 2019.

PSG are one of his potential suitors and Mbappe is hopeful that the club can negotiate a deal, after admitting he was excited by De Jong's display during a recent international fixture between France and Netherlands.

"He is a player who really impressed me during our two matches with the Netherlands," Mbappe told France Football.

"His vision and the quality of his passing that breaks the lines make him very valuable, especially because he also intercepts a considerable amount of balls.

"Honestly, he is very welcome in Paris! I said to him as much, because he would be enormous for us. After that, he will make his own choice."

Manchester City are thought to be leading the race for De Jong at the moment with a mooted €70m (£62m/$80m) offer already on the table, as Goal recently revealed.

Barcelona, Real Madrid and Juventus are all keeping a close eye on De Jong's situation too, with a bidding war set to ignite either in the January transfer window or at the end of the season.

However, PSG boss Thomas Tuchel is hopeful of bringing in midfield reinforcements next year with the impending departure of Adrien Rabiot, who recently turned down a contract extension at the Parc Des Princes.

De Jong is back in action for Ajax on Saturday in the Eredivisie, as they make the trip to face Zwolle.
