PSV fail to impress in 2-0 win over NAC

PSV Eindhoven opened an eight-point lead at the top of the Eredivisie standings following a less than convincing 2-0 win over hosts NAC Breda on Saturday.

PSV Eindhoven sat five points clear of nearest rivals Ajax before kick-off against NAC, a side that had lost their last five games in all competitions and started the day second from bottom.

The hosts put up a good fight though and PSV struggled to create chances - NAC defender Jurich Carolina's header over his own crossbar the closest the visitors came to breaking the deadlock in the first half.

But having held firm for the opening 45 minutes, NAC fell behind two minutes after the re-start. Jorrit Hendrix played Angelino into space on the left wing and the Spaniard delivered a cross into the six-yard box that Luuk de Jong steered home.

NAC created a great chance to level the score moments later, but Mitchell te Vrede's saw his shot blocked by PSV goalkeeper Jeroen Zoet following an interception and pass from Gervane Kastaneer.  Anouar Kali then threated the visitors' goal in the 76th minute with a looped shot from long-range, only to see his effort come back off the crossbar.

PSV looked destined to hold on to the slender lead, but Mark van Bommel's side killed off the game in the second minute of stoppage time, when substitute Donyell Malen added the simplest of finishes to a Steven Bergwijn pass to make a it 2-0.

A seventh win from as many games at the start of the season lifted PSV eight points clear at the top of the table, although Ajax could cut the gap back to five when they visited Fortuna Sittard on Saturday night.
