Van Persie late winner as Feyenoord beat Utrecht

Feyenoord moved into third place in the Eredivisie after defeating Utrecht 1-0 at De Kuip on Sunday (23rd September), thanks to a late winner from Robin van Persie.

Feyenoord have come out of the blocks fast this seaosn, and a big part of that is the form of veteran striker Robin van Persie who tested Utrecht keeper David Jensen early on.

The 35-year old had scored four goals in five Eredivisie games and he almost had an assist here - the equally prolific Steven Berghuis denied by Jensen.

Berghuis played a part in the Netherland's unsuccessful World Cup qualifying campaign and he showed his class with a clever flick to Jeremiah St Juste and the man in the danger zone was van Persie for an 87th minute winner.

Feyenoord 1-0 winners thanks to the prodigal son who took 14 years to return to his home club

Feyenoord nopw one of three teams on 13 points - two points behind leaders PSV.
