AZ approaches Ajax at top with late header Boadu

A late goal by Myron Boadu earned AZ Alkmaar a 1-0 win over Ajax and brought the two clubs level on points. This was the third in a row in which Ajax failed to score.

For the first time since the collapse of the roof of the stadium in Alkmaar, AZ were able to play a home match again and it was against Eredivisie leaders and reigning champions Ajax.

Ten Hag had a difficult puzzle to solve for the last away game of 2019.  Several regular players were forced to sit out the top game against AZ.  Sergiño Dest, Daley Blind and Nico Tagliafico were all absent from the starting line-up.

Without creating major chances, AZ were the better team in Alkmaar. After 90 minutes the matche seemed destined to end in a goalles draw, but a header by AZ striker Myron Boadu in the finale minute gave the home team a 1-0 win.

Super Sunday

On the Super Sunday, Feyenoord defeated struggling PSV 3-1 in Rotterdam. Steven Berghuis opened the scoring with a header and the Feyenoord captain added two more through a couple of penalties. PSV substitute Gaston Pereiro produced PSV's consolation goal with a beautiful lob in the final minutes.

After a surprising win at Ajax, Willem II notched another away win at sc Heerenveen (2-1) on Friday. Vangelis Pavlidis and Mike Tresor Ndayishimiye scored for Willem II, with Rodney Kongolo scoring the 2-1 for sc Heerenveen.

Ajax still lead the Eredivisie at the season's halfway point with 41 points from 17 matches, now level on points with AZ. Willem II are third (32 points) and PSV fourth (31 points).
