Nominations for Eredivisie Player of the Year and U21 Player of the Year announced

The nominations for the Eredivisie’s Player of the Year and the U21 Player of the Year have now been announced. The 18 captains and 18 head coaches vote for the nominees and the winners will be announced at the beginning of the 2021/22 season.

In total, 20 players have been nominated for the Eredivisie Player of the Year award. Six of them have also been nominated for the Eredivisie U21 Player of the Year. Preselection took place on the basis of individual players’ statistics from StatsPerform and fan votes for Man of the Match on ESPN. One condition is that players must have played at least 60% of the overall playing minutes (1,836 minutes). Ultimately, the votes from the 18 captains (Player of the Year) and 18 coaches (U21 Player of the Year) will be the decisive factor. To this end, the Eredivisie and ESPN have collaborated with players’ union VVCS and the ‘Coaches Betaald Voetbal’ association.

Eredivisie Player of the Year

The Eredivisie Player of the Year award is an initiative of Eredivisie CV in collaboration with ESPN, and is part of the Eredivisie Player of the Month vote. This year, the 18 captains and 18 coaches have been given a vote too, for the first time.
Last season no winners were announced due to the termination of the competition. In the season 2018/19, Frenkie de Jong won the prize for Eredivisie Player of the Year, while Angeliño won the prize for Eredivisie U21 Player of the Year.
