Robin van Persie receives first Eredivisie Player of the Month trophy

Feyenoord striker Robin van Persie has been named the Eredivisie Player of the Month (august). Based on the statistics of Opta Sports, the former Manchester United and Arsenal player appeared to have performed the best and has received the first Eredivisie Player of the Month Trophy.

The 35-year-old striker, who returned to his first club in his professional career in january, scored with four of his five shots on target in the first four matches of the Eredivisie season. Van Persie also managed to give an assist in the derby against Excelsior. He beat off competition from Ajax-player Hakim Ziyech, who despite having interest from AS Roma, stayed at the Amsterdam side for another season.

Steven Bergwijn: Rookie of the Month 

The 20-year-old PSV forward Steven Bergwijn has received the first trophy for being the Rookie of the Month. The talented player – who will most likely start against FC Barcelona in the UEFA Champions League next tuesday – has scored three goals and completed sixteen succesfull dribbles last month in the Eredivisie. 

About the Election Player of the Month

This season the Eredivisie CV and FOX Sports have chosen to award trophy’s to the Eredivisie Player and Rookie of the Month. On the basis of match data statistics Opta Sports, players are individually assessed on the basis of 60 different statistics. From this result the best Player, Rookie and the Team of the Month arise. To be eligible players must have played at least two matches (150 minutes). The Rookie of the month may not be older than 21 years (at the start of the competition).
