Ajax beat Vitesse to close gap on PSV

Ajax travelled to Vitesse on Sunday as they looked to close the gap on Dutch league leaders PSV, after they thrashed Willem II 6-1 on Saturday evening.

And they wasted no time in doing so as Hakim Ziyech fired in from distance just three minutes into the match. Goalkeeper Eduardo was unable to keep out the Moroccan's effort.

Just four minuted later, Ajax doubled their advantage as Klass-Jan Huntelaar found himself in acres of space in the box for a simple header from Ziyech's free-kick.

19 minutes in and the points already looked secure when former Southampton midfielder Dusan Tadic's delicate finish made it 3-0

Ajax continued to dominate in the early stages of the second half, with Huntelaar having his second of the match ruled out for offside by VAR. However, just a minute later, in a move similar to his ruled out strike, Huntelaar was there again to coolly lift the ball over Eduardo for 4-0.

Ajax are second in the Eredivisie standings, with 10 points from their opening four matches, while Vitesse are 8th.
