Neres signs new Ajax deal amid links to Man Utd and Atletico Madrid

The Brazil winger will remain in Amsterdam after shining during his side's run through the Champions League last season

David Neres has signed a new deal with Ajax, putting an end to reports of an exit amid links to Manchester United, Atletico Madrid and Everton.

The Brazilian winger has officially signed on for a new contract that runs through 2023, adding a further year to his prior deal that was set to expire in 2022.

Neres rose to prominence throughout Ajax's Champions League run, as the Dutch club took down Real Madrid and Juventus before falling to Tottenham in the semi-final round.

The 22-year-old attacker made 15 appearances throughout that Champions League run, scoring goals against both Real Madrid and Juve in the knockout rounds to go with a group-stage finish against Belgian side Standard Liege.

Neres originally moved to Ajax from Sao Paulo during the 2017 winter window, making his debut for the club that February.

He's gone on to make a total of 101 appearances for the club, scoring 29 goals during his time in Amsterdam.

The winger received his first senior call-up in March, joining Brazil for friendlies against Panama and the Czech Republic following an injury to Vinicius Junior.

Neres scored his first Brazil goal in a June friendly against Honduras before featuring for the Selecao as they won the Copa America this summer on home soil.

The Ajax star featured two times for Brazil during the tournament, starting against Venezuela and Bolivia.

On Tuesday, Ajax opened their 2019-20 Champions League campaign against PAOK in a 2-2 draw in the first leg of the third qualifying round.

Hakim Ziyech and Klaas-Jan Huntelaar found the back of the net for Ajax, with Neres making an eight-minute cameo off the bench as PAOK held on for a draw in Greece.

Ajax will look to push on for a second consecutive Eredivisie title this season as the club looks to stay atop Dutch football despite a number of key exits.

Captain Matthjis de Ligt has departed the club to join Juventus while midfield lynchpin Frenkie de Jong has joined Barcelona.

That title defence will begin on Saturday as Ajax host FC Emmen before hosting PAOK for the second leg of their qualifier.
